Islamorada Swordfishing Charters

An Islamorada swordfishing charter is the ultimate deep-sea adventure for anglers looking to target one of the ocean’s most elusive and powerful predators. We typically depart early in the morning aboard our 36’ Contender, making quick work of the run to the Gulf Stream. This will be 25 – 45 miles offshore depending on the current and weather conditions. Once on the fishing grounds, we deploy specialized deep-drop rigs with heavy tackle, targeting swordfish in depths of 1,000 to 1,800 feet during their daytime feeding hours. Every drop is a test of patience and skill, but the payoff makes the challenge unforgettable.

These trips aren’t just about the fight; they’re about the entire offshore experience. On the way to and from the swordfish grounds, we may encounter other exciting pelagic species such as mahi-mahi, tuna, or wahoo, giving you the chance to round out your experience. With Islamorada’s reputation as one of the best daytime swordfishing destinations in the world, our local knowledge, top-tier equipment, and dedication to putting you on fish ensure your trip is as thrilling as it is rewarding. Whether you’re a seasoned offshore angler or looking to cross swordfish off your bucket list, this charter delivers an experience you’ll remember for a lifetime.

Target Species

Our swordfish charters are year round, but they are weather dependent due to the long runs we must do.

The broadbill swordfish is one of the most prized game fish in the ocean, known for its long, flat bill, powerful build, and incredible stamina. The average sized fish we catch out of Islamorada is 50 – 100lb, but they can grow over 500 pounds. Swordfish are apex predators that inhabit the deep waters of the open ocean, making them a challenging and rewarding target for serious anglers. Their elusive nature demands specialized techniques, patience, and skill, which adds to the thrill of the hunt.

Swordfish are highly sought after for their rich, flavorful meat, making them exceptional on the plate. In Islamorada, widely regarded as one of the best places in the world to target them, landing a swordfish is considered a true bucket-list achievement. Although the fishery is fairly consistent year round, March and August are known as big fish months as big breeders migrate through our area.

Where We Fish

Our swordfish trips cover some of the most productive deepwater fishing grounds off Islamorada, focusing on offshore ledges and abyssal plains where swordfish are known to frequent. We fish in water depths ranging from 1,000 to over 1,800 feet near the gulf stream off Islamorada. These locations provide the ideal environment for swordfish to hunt, allowing us to deploy deep-drop gear precisely where the fish are feeding.
